In India armpit shaving was common during the period the South Indian Temples were built. Then this habit disappeared due to augment of sleeved blouses-by the way,I am neither a historian or a researcher. Now women in South India keep their pits very private with long sleeved blouses. I think women look good if they wear sleeveless clothes and keep pits smooth. In Bollywood movies they look abs sexy with exposed smooth pits. In the North many women go sleeveless. Going sleeveless I think is practical in hot and humid weather.

I'm female and I shave my under arms. Living in France, I've noticed that pretty much everyone else here does too. I haven't a clue where that stereotype came from. Non-shaven under arms itches anyway, although, if I weren't to shave in a long time I'd probably get used to it.

Just a friendly reminder for you women-folk who don't shave: You're vile, disgusting and shunned by society, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Disgusting wretches.

Hey Natural Girl... I'm a guy and I just bet we'd look really interesting as a couple since you don't shave and I don't either. I've been self conscious most of my life for the fact that my pits are bald. I mean notta' single hair except for a few fine blondies that you'd have to actually look for and they can only be seen in just the right sunlight. When I'm with my girlfriend and wearing a muscle shirt/wife beater, I'm not at all self conscious to raise my arms in public. She loves the look and actually a bit jealous at times since she shaves hers but they still don't look as good, according to her. I'm not the least bit squeamish around friends and family, but just strangers.

I've grown out of the bald pit feelings somewhat over the years and have met a few more, male and female, that also have hairless pits and aren't self conscious about it at all. Just keep in mind, there are a few of us around. My only question to you is, would you even consider dating someone like me, and if so, wouldn't we look a little bit odd together?

~~~"This one has nothing to do with pit hair, but does have to do with armpits. A lot of you probably use the mainstream antiperspirant/deodorants, and you probably think that your armpit smell is just awful when you don’t use them, and it’s true. I think the antiperspirants just trap your sweat inside, and when it comes out it’s extra potent."~~~
Sweat doesn't cause the armpit to stink.
~~~"After about a week of stinking, my sweat quit smelling as strong, and my friends and I have found one’s natural odor is kind of nice when it first comes out (not after days of not showering of course)."~~~

I'm sure if you're around skunks long enough they'd stop smelling too.

Hi Lisa! I've been away on vacation and just saw your reply. Glad to hear from you and glad you agree that natural is best. I'd love to talk to you more, but some place a bit more private, if possible. ;-)

As for me:

I don't shave because I refuse to be brainwashed. Bad enough that many women have been brainwashed into thinking shaving is mandatory (and along with them, most guys into agreeing). But now a recent trend is encouraging us guys to touch our hair under there as well? Uh, forget that.

Now if you genuinely feel better shaving and being clean-shaven, good for you. Do what makes you feel good. Me? I can barely stand shaving my face (although I do ... sometimes), much less a more sensitive region, and I'm really NOT inclined to believe that most women who shave their underarms are comfortable with it, considering that the skin there is far more sensitive than a man's face.

Ideally, I wouldn't care one way or the other whether a woman shaves or not, but realistically, I'm a lot more attracted to women who don't shave. I can't really put my finger on any one reason why, either. Maybe not shaving is so uncommon in America (and even worse, becoming less common in Europe) that it's taken on an exotic quality? Eh. All I know is that its very pleasing to the eye and, in my own opinion, she just looks like a REAL woman.

Well, I suppose there's another reason I'm so attracted to unshaven women: they just seem to give off a whole different level of confidence, which is extremely attractive.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of deodorant, either. Washing at least every other day is important, of course, but normal, natural body odor towards the end of the day after starting it off clean? Yes, please.

Hey Chelsea!

Most of your classmates at that age, sad to say, are probably idiots. Or, at best, they're uninformed. They probably have parents who didn't mention to them that body hair growth at puberty on both sexes is not only normal, but should be expected.

I know that doesn't help you a great deal, but really, you're better than those that may laugh at you if you do let your underarm hair grow.

Hey there Kad,

I don't shave my armpits or wear deodorant. Just don't like all the chemicals in it! :) It is natural to sweat. Want to know more write back! :)
