Random Talk

I think that doctors and professors who teach at universities should be initially screened for mad cow disease and other brain damaging health problems and/or natural insanity. Why? Because I had the pleasure of being taught by a doctor who saw it upon himself to advise female students of his class not to get a phd degrees because it will lower their chances of getting married! In his own words it is “not recommended at all”. according to him, men don’t want a woman’s education level to exceed theirs. It’s about the social status too, he added, “imagine a princesses marrying a normal man, and people start addressing them as the princesses X and her husband Y!!!”. so in this man’s world, it’s not OK to address a man in that way, but it’s perfectly fine and correct to do address the woman in the same manner if it was the other way around?

The same doctor had advised male students who would like to travel for study or work to go SINGLE.

I don’t know what is up with people and the starvation for prestigious affiliation. What happens to seeking “good” friends? Nowadays people are seeking the company and/or association of the rich, influential, upper-class and/or allegedly sophisticated friends. Seeking power and even prestige is fine by me, I just don’t buy the friendship part of it.

I consider myself to be blessed for finding happiness and peace in the smallest things of life. It is a blessing when you need very little to feel content, when you find beauty in the quietness and be able to laugh at the silliest things.

I can’t stand girls who think that to live is to study then work, then get married. And while they may overlap, once you’ve achieved one of these you gotta move to the next. And higher studies seem to be some sort of a time-passer, something to do while waiting for the future hubby to show up or maybe a chance to meet guys. It’s very sad when women do that to themselves. And even sadder when some think that the clock (a marriage clock) starts ticking sometime around the age of 23 (and at 30 you’re officially a spinster). There’s a clock?! it’s so sad to hear such self-loathing remarks from young and well-educated women. But then again, good education is a relative issue and almost inapplicable to the majority of Arabic institutions!

    Hala Hala shaden,
    .
Ana kaman mallayt min hadha ilfikr ilabawi/ildhukuri… and the bourgeoisie that unfortunately I’ve come to experience quite a fair amount of in Jordan…
    .
Hmmm… what can I say? Messed up ideas that’s not allowing our society to go anywhere.
    .
I recommend you see a new movie out by Tawfiq Abu Wael, from Umm el Fahm, Palestine 48, ‘3a6ash’… it talks about similar issues and is really well shot. And it deals with the simple things… trab, ramal, maay w hawa - and from these very simple elements the guy is able to convey so many messages through this film.
    .
And you’re on the right track with seeking friendship that is really about ‘friends’ and not about prestige/wealth/influence. The latter will just leave you feeling empty in the long run.
