Facebook Applications are Annoying Sometimes

30Oct08

The “causes” application people have been bugging me about my upcoming birthday. Not only do they remind me of my birthdate in a count-down manner, they are also suggesting that I use my birthday to collect funds for a cause that I support by creating a “birthday cause”.
Let me be brutally honest about this, whatever [...]

Honor Crimes in the Jordan Times

30Oct08

Over the past two years (ever since I came to Jordan) the language used in “honor crimes” news reports have not changed. Despite of the social outrage towards these crimes and the call for a legal reform, the Jordan Times, is still parroting the radical voices of a tribal mindset instead fighting them or at [...]

October 29 is Pink Hijab Day!

27Oct08

Totally love the idea. In an attempt to spread awareness about breast cancer, women and girls will be wearing pink scarves (not necessarily on their heads) on the 29th of this month (October). I’ll be wearing my pink neck scarf on Wednesday! Spread the word.

26Oct08

I’m not going to write a review, I’m leaving that to the experts. I just want to thank Aziz for talking about the water crisis in Jordan and calling for moderation in using this declining resource.
Much respect to a true Jordanian talent.

Are You a Highly Sensitive Person?

21Oct08

A highly sensitive person (HSP) is a person having the innate trait of high sensitivity (or innate sensitiveness as Carl Gustav Jung originally coined it). According to Elaine N. Aron and colleagues as well as other researchers, highly sensitive people, which would represent about a fifth of the population, process sensory data much more deeply [...]

Blog Action Day 2008: Poverty

15Oct08

“The time for action has never been more urgent - rising food prices have plunged 100 million more people into poverty, and the economic slowdown risks eroding political support for development,” HM Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.

This morning, the taxi driver who gave me a ride to work tuned in to one of the local radio stations [...]
