Utility pads are a larger version of scouring pad and can be attached to a utility pad holder which can either comes with a hand held handle or long pole handle. Utility pads are mostly used for cleaning baseboards, scuff marks on floors, and built up floor wax in hard to reach places. The average utility pad is about 10 inches long whereas a scouring pad is usually six inches or less.
A very popular utility pad is called a doodlebug pad and is manufactured by 3M Corporation. The doodlebug pad is popular because it comes with a pad holder system. The floor hand pad holder has small teeth that grip to the pad and a comfortable handle to reduce stress and fatigue for the user. Pole pad holders also have small teeth that hold the pad, but the actual holder itself can be attached to a pole to get at hard to reach places. Utility hand pads come in different grades of abrasion so it is possible to chose a suitable pad for the task at hand.

A common industry standard in hand pads is that the darker the color pad usually has the coarsest fibers and the lighter colors have denser fibers and are less abrasive. The most common colors for utility pads are white, blue, brown and black. White utility pads are equivalent to a cleansing pad and used for cleaning delicate surfaces. Blue utility pads are more for general use and are mildly abrasive yet still effective at scrubbing. Brown utility pads are most commonly used for scrubbing, scouring and removing light wax build up on floors. Black utility pads are the most abrasive and are great for tackling heavy amounts of built up wax in hard to reach places.

Utility pads are a necessity when refinishing floors and are usually found in every floor refinishing experts tool box. When refinishing a vinyl or tile floor it is important to remove all the old wax or floor finish before applying the new layer. Floor pads and low speed floor machines running at about 175rpm – 300rpm do a great job at removing floor finish and wax from open floors but corners and baseboards can sometimes become quite a chore. This is where utility pads come in handy. When using a utility pad on baseboards and flooring corners a handy tool to use is a utility pad holder with extension pole. When using an extension pole, extra pressure can be applied to the pad to create more friction between the pad and the surface thus removing more old floor finish and cutting down on worker fatigue. When utility pads become caked with old floor finish they can be easily rinsed in hot water or floor stripper to remove the finish from the pad extending the pads life by up to four times. When the fibers within the pad start breaking off it is then time to discard the pad and use a new one. When removing a extra heavy duty buildup of wax on a floor it is recommended that you soak the utility pad in a high performance stripper then and agitate the old wax using a black utility pad. If this method does not work and the buildup is too thick take an old towel soaked in floor stripper and let it soak on the built up area.

One of the biggest energy expenses for homes is heating the pool. Using the power of the sun can keep you swimming in the middle of winter.

If you have a pool, you know heating it can run your utility bill through the roof. Fortunately, there are a number of practical steps that can be taken to cut costs.

Many people who complain about the cost of heating their pools fail to take common sense steps to cut the bill. One of the unrealized costs is the power required to run the filter circulation system. Spend the money on a high powered pump and you will save money. The more you pump, the less time it will need to be on.

Next, make absolutely sure you use a cover for the pool. Heat escapes through uncovered surfaces. If you re not using the pool, put a cover on it just like you would a hot tub. Try to add a solar bubble cover, which will create a bit of water heat by letting the sun in. Regardless, using a pool cover will make a major difference in your utility bill. Don t be lazy! Make sure you keep the cover on the pool.

Even pool covers can only do so much to keep a pool warm. For some people, cutting the costs associated with warming a pool means going to a solar system. Solar heating systems for pools can be a very cost effective way to keep water warm throughout much of the year without driving your utility bill through the roof.

Solar platforms typically will heat a pool up to around 80 degrees, but not much more. The systems tend to be less expensive than home heating systems because they are smaller and need fewer components. You solar vendor can help you figure out what you need for your particular situation, but the rule of thumb is you need panels totaling half the size of the pool. This can vary based on whether the pool has a dark bottom and is isolated from the wind.

With utility bills soaring, many people are forgoing heating their pools to save money. By taking practical steps and possibly using a solar heating system, you ll have the glory of swimming in January and not worrying about the utility bill.

Knives are the most important and most frequently used kitchen utensils. In choosing a new knife set, the main considerations are which knife set to purchase and which knife is used for what purpose. Buying a knife set is an important decision. The knives you choose should last a lifetime. After you purchase a good quality knife set, you should never have to replace them. A good rule is to buy the most expensive set of knives you can possibly afford, because they should last for the rest of your life.

Knives are normally more affordable if you purchase them in a set. Knife sets should include all the basic tools and will normally include a stand or container in which to store the knives. You will be able to purchase additional, more specific, knives in the future if you wish. Most knife manufacturers sell knives individually, allowing you to add to your collection at any time you wish. You may need to replace a lost knife, have a duplicate on hand if you have more than one cook in your kitchen, you may wish to have a specialty knife for smaller hands, or you want the top of the line knives but cannot afford a whole set at once. A knife set will make more sense unless one of these situations applies to you.

There are different types of knives. Fine edge knives are the classic style. Chefs and serious cooks normally choose fine edge knives due to the weight and feel. The blade is very sharp which allows for precision cutting. Fine edge knives will require some maintenance however, such as steeling. Knives that never need sharpening are a good choice for most people who cook for themselves and their families on a daily basis. Knives that never need sharpening will not make the same precision cuts as fine edge knives, but they retain their sharpness over time. These knives are excellent if you are seeking decent quality at reasonable prices.

The type of steel used in knife blades is one of the most important factors in choosing a knife set. The majority of knives are manufactured with a blend of high carbon stainless steel that will resist rust and corrosion. The tang is the part of the knife in which the metal is attached to the handle. The best knives will have a tang in which the metal extends to the end of the handle. Knife blades are normally tapered at the edges to allow for easier sharpening. Quality knives are balanced and feel good in the cook’s hand. The knife should be easy to handle and feel solid. A good knife should feel like an extension of your hand and allow adequate space between where your fingers grip the knife and the surface on which you are cutting.

In purchasing a knife set, you will need to know the difference between stamped and forged. Forging is the process of taking a heated piece of metal and grinding it into the shape of a blade. Stamped blades are cut from a single sheet of metal and pressed into a blade. Forged knives are generally heavier than stamped knives, giving you better quality. There will be several types of knives included in each knife set. Identifying the particular knives each set contains will be very helpful in choosing the one that will best serve your needs.

Most knife sets will contain a chef knife, which has a triangular blade that ranges from 6 to 12 inches long. The paring knife will have a blade that is approximately 3 inches long and it about 3/4 of an inch wide. A serrated knife is used for slicing breads and vegetables that tend to bruise easily. Utility knives have an approximately 6 inch blade and are used for a number of purposes. Boning knives are for slicing meat off bones and the blades are normally quite narrow. A slicing knife has a long, thin blade and is used to slice meat such as ham, roast, and turkey. Butcher knives are usually heavier than the other knives in the set and have blades up to eight inches. A cleaver is used for heavy chopping and cutting through bone and will have a slightly curved or straight edge. Steak knives are used for cutting steaks in a table setting, but can also serve as utility or paring knives.

Are you looking for the best Christmas decoration and ornaments? There are a lot of stores everywhere. If you take a look through your local mall, you re likely to find a huge selection of decorations to suit just about any taste and budget.

The perfect time to shop for decorations is the start of December. During this season, some shops and stores offer great discounts. Sometimes, you need to buy the tree first, and after displaying it in your home for a few days, you ll come up with imaginative ideas on how to decorate it.

When it comes to ornaments, the best thing to do is to choose the color of your decorations to compliment the tree itself, or the color of the room where the tree will be placed. Usually, during the holidays, there are specialty stores in the mall, or special departments set up at regular stores that display a wide range of ornaments with unique colors and designs.

Christmas decorations can also be bought in souvenir shops you find while on vacation. These ornaments are often hand or natively made out of native materials too. Usually, these decorations are unique, but they can be a little expensive. If you want to buy cheaper decorations, you can find them in smaller stores away from the malls. You might have to search a bit, but what you find will be worth it.

You can also look for decorations in printed brochures and catalogs. These usually have a way of appearing in the mail just before the holiday season. Here you ll find all the details, the sizes, colors available and the prices. Often there are discounts for buying more than one ornament. This can be a great way to decorate your tree for the holidays.

If you are comfortable shopping online, you can check websites that offer Christmas decorations. Use a search engine, and enter Christmas ornaments and you ll find lots of places to shop. Many of these sites offer discounts for easy shopping.

If you re going to buy Christmas lights, make sure that you buy them from a good store. Quality is important to consider in choosing lights you want them to last more than one season. By choosing a good quality light, you won t have to buy a new set each year, and more importantly, you ll protect your home and family from the faulty wiring of cheaper lights that can be a fire hazard.

When the holidays are over, be sure to sort and store your decorations carefully. Try to keep the boxes or cartons they came in, so that they can be put away safely, without worrying about breakage during the year. This way, you ll have the same wonderful, beautiful ornaments ready to use next year and for years to come.

A Garage Floor, what is there to say about a slab of concrete used to park your car and store junk. Although this sentiment may have been true in the past, today’s garage floor materials and coatings are nothing if not extremely high tech and quality driven.

First, let’s talk coatings. We’re not talking simply about paint here but polymers that literally lock themselves into place. These high tech coatings not only make your garage look better but also resist oil and many of the inevitable solvent and chemical spills that happen in the typical garage. Unlike a porous cement garage floor, these high tech coatings not only look beautiful but stand up to all but the harshest chemicals.

Another benefit of garage floor coatings is the cleanliness factor. Your garage may be kept cleaner simply because it’s seen more as an extension of the house instead of “just the garage.” It’s also easier to keep clean when the dirt and debris start to collect.

Instead of the dull gray garage floor, these coating come in a variety of colors. Many of the most popular polymer coatings for garage floors are a two or three step process that includes a base coat, a measure of color flakes and a top coat. Once cured, parking your car on this wonder of modern science is not a problem.

Another alternative for garage floors are high density, oil resistant mats. These cushioning maps are perfect if you’re a do it yourself car mechanic and spend a lot of time under the hood of your favorite toys.

All in all, the garage is an important part of your homes operation. Doesn’t it deserve a high tech finish?

It will then produce a dry air that will go through the hot coil to bring back its original temperature.

The dehumidifier is not anymore needed if there is an air conditioner available in the room. The air conditioner may do the process of dehumidifying the moisture in the room. Most households experience some problems when there is too much and too little moisture in the air.

This is the reason why many encounter problems of dry skin and itchy skin. The discomfort of having an air that is too dry may also lead to the cracking of furniture surfaces. The blocking of nasal passages would also be experienced because of the dry air produced by the moisture.

An air that is slightly wet can also cause the same problems on the skin and to the nasal passages. The continuous condensation of the moisture in windows, the expansion of molds, and the cause of rotten wood products is the effect of the dry air that is not removed. That is why it is important to have a dehumidifier in the house. To have an idea on what kind of dehumidifier to choose, here are some dehumidifier purchase costs:

1. It can be an option to have a dehumidifier that is a heat pump. These items are more complex because they are only limited. The prices of these dehumidifiers are affordable. It is advisable to buy when springtime comes where $50 to $100 of savings is offered to buyers in this season.

2. Find a dehumidifier that has a two-speed fan. These units produce less noise and gives low humidity that lessens the efficiency factor. Try to check the units before buying it. Consider the noise it produces if in case the unit will be placed near the bedrooms.

3. Buy units of dehumidifiers that have a rating of 10 L (21 U.S. pints or 2.1 imperial gallon) a day. These units may fit on those small houses that have an average moisture resistance. Their prices may range from $200 to $250 per unit. While those dehumidifiers that have 20 L (42 U.S. pints or 4.2 imperial gallons) a day rating can cost $250 to $300 per unit. These units are best for big and town houses.

4. It is not advisable to buy chemical absorbent dehumidifiers. These units are only suitable for places that have hot and weather climates.

5. Look for the (EF) or the Efficiency Factor of the unit. This is the guide to know the amount of the dehumidifier s operation cost. There are provided information on the brochure of the unit where the operator s manual can give the instruction on how to get the EF. There is also a label that will indicate the EF if there are no manuals available on the brochure. The label can be found at the back of the water collection bucket section.

This information on dehumidifiers may help buyers how to choose the right unit for their home. Always check the manufacturer s reputation on selling the said product. Always look for the quality of the unit and ask for the guarantees and warranties of the unit.

Lifting and peeling paint from epoxy coverings, coatings and seals are too often the end product of efforts to dress up a garage, shop or basement. A lifting and peeling problem is worse than having no finish at all. The eyesore of blisters, peeling, and chipping of a floor gone wrong is testimonial to a failure in preparation. Fortunately, after 40 years of development technology in flooring, one should no longer rely on raw materials like muriatic acid (Hydrochloric) to clean and prep your floor. Applicators now realize that an acid etch using a simple raw muriatic acid is no cure all. Integrated systems for preparing concrete properly can now avoid disasters that leave garages looking worse than before they were coated.

Preparation is everything when applying finishes. You can only expect a surface to stay in place if its substrate is permanent. Obviously, if the substrate crumbles or moves, your surface will move with it. Today, after 40 years of application experience, flooring experts have developed application preparation procedures that help minimize the risk of substrates moving. New floors are especially vulnerable and require extensive preparation. New concrete is dusty for the first few years while the latents of concrete on the surface are kicked, walked, or driven off. Those latents must be removed before quality epoxy topcoats are applied or the topcoats will move with the latents as they break free from the substrate.

Blasting away part of your floor often leaves corn rows cut into the floor due to over lap, and will need to be filed. Blasting often just brings you down to a new level of contamination. It is often better to clean 100% of the surface using chemicals that are designed to work together in an integrated system to assure a clean, solid surface. When you wash your clothing your detergent uses a change in pH to help release soils. Water softeners and rinse agents are blended into laundry detergents, dish shops and even shampoos to assist the pH change in releasing soils and contaminants.

Cleaning first with a high pH or alkaline degreaser attacks oil and grease contaminants while moving the floor pH higher. Next slamming your dirty surface with a low pH acidic cleaner attacks minerals, rust and other particles, makes your pH jump 10 points or better to shock contaminants loose from substrates. The acidic cleaner should have detergents, rinse agents and water softeners blended into it so you know that it is formulated to do the best job possible. It is vitally important to bring your pH back to normal 6.5 or 7 pH after cleaning, with a scrub rinse. Have you ever run your finger across your car after pressure washing only to find it still has a thin layer of road film on it? Surface tension holds even high pressure from penetrating many films. You need to break the surface tension with contact during all three steps of cleaning. The more aggressive the contact the better for removing concrete latents, small particles of concrete that are ready to break of to become that endless dust coming off unquoted concrete floors.

Rotary scrubbers, similar to what a school custodian utilizes, can be fitted with stiff bristle brushes using carbide chips imbedded in flexible nylon bristles to scrub your floor. The bristles dive into mall pours, cracks, and holes to help strip away fragile cement particles that are softer than the exposed carbide chips. These scrubbers should be used for your alkaline cleaning, your acidic cleaning, and for your final rinse cleaning. Scrub rinsing stops the chemical action of your cleaners and provides a liquid medium to bring your floor pH back to neutral and flush contaminants and residual detergents away. Once dry (1 to 4 hours) you are ready for your coating, paint, epoxy or seal.

Epoxy flooring is weather-resistant, and unharmed by rain, snow, oil, and flooding. This resistance is due to the fact that epoxy coatings, unlike paints, come in two parts. When mixed, a catalyzing process changes these two parts from a liquid to a permanent solid. In contrast, paints are carried in water or solvent bases that evaporate to leave the finish. If you reintroduce one of those carriers to the surface, the paint often is able to re-dissolve back into a liquid state.

Even though painted garage finishes are formulated to resist dissolving into their carriers, under stress they can be susceptible to blistering, peeling, and chipping. But water and most solvents have no effect on sealed epoxy surfaces. Epoxy flooring goes on at the job site and requires no seams, creating a continuous membrane that seals what is above from what is below. These epoxy surfaces have been used in food processing plants for over 50 years now. Mold, mildew and other contaminants cannot penetrate the epoxy membrane, and wash off easily.

One should not rely on retail store clerks to help with a floor that will be used for 10 to 20 years. Factory-direct kits of materials including step-by-step instructions and a 24/7 help line are now available online. With these resources, anyone can put a quality floor down in their garage that will last for decades. Like a car finish, you may get some scratches and marks, but also like a car finish, a little touching up can keep those finishes looking great for decades.

Durall Industrial Flooring offers no-cost, no-obligation quotes for its fully customized kits of materials, including all preparation materials and procedures, for installing industrial quality epoxy or urethane coatings at http://www.concrete-floor-coatings.com. These beautifully sealed and easy-to-maintain floors come in over 20 colors. The floor finish can be gloss, flat, or satin and may be easily accented with decorative chips. Having problems with your drainage system? Does it have leaks? You may be in the market for a plumber. Not sure where to turn? The good news is that it is fairly easy to find a reliable, experienced plumber for any of your household jobs.

One way to find a plumber is via word of mouth. You can ask friends and neighbors for referrals. They may know of someone who has previously done plumbling work at their home. Best of all, they may know someone in the neighborhood who does plumbing work who can report to your house right away.

If you can t obtain the name of a plumber via word of mouth, you can look at the yellow pages and find a plumbing company or a union. You will be shown a list of plumbers in your area along with contact information. With so many listings, you are virtually assured of finding someone to handle your situation.

You can also look for plumbers online. Make sure that you search your local area only. Within a few keystrokes, you can locate a plumber, find contact information, and call to set up an appointment. They will most likely ask what has happened with your leaking taps. If it is not that severe and you can fix it up, they will just give you some easy instructions on how to fix it. If it is just a simple problem, you need not have a plumber to go over your house.

The newspaper in the classifieds section is a good resource for plumbers. But again, you have to make sure that you search in your local area only. Those who are in the web and the classifieds are the ones that you need to trust. Although there are good plumbers without enough apprenticeship but with good skills, engineers would always require those which are prominent in the field.

Some people would always run to the plumber who had been pointed by their friends even if they are not efficient and experienced plumbers for the reason they charge only a little amount compared to the plumbers in the union.

If you really want to be highly selective, you can search for those plumbers with identification, which includes years of experience. If your house has some little problems with leaks, there is really no need to consult the best plumbers, paying the highest cost when even the apprentice can fix minor problems.

You need the best plumbers if you are building a new home. The plumbing and drainage need to be detailed, and it s the plumber s task to read through the blueprint of your house. A starting plumber cannot understand properly the details in the blue prints, only those who have been in the field for a long time. Building a home needs the best plumbers so that the plumbing features can last for a long time. in the future if it leaks, you can ask a local plumber to fix it up for you.

As fossil fuels get more expensive, society in general is starting to get serious about finding new power sources. Geothermal heating is a simple answer for homes.

Geothermal heating is a fairly old concept that has gained a new life through advances in modern technology and materials. The concept is best explained using a basic example.

In many parts of the world, homes come with basements. If you ve lived in such a home, you ve probably failed to notice an interesting fact. Everyone knows that a basement will remain relatively cool during a summer, no matter how hot it gets outside. Fewer people, however, realize a basement will maintain fairly warm temperatures in the winter regardless of how cold it is outside the home. This odd result has to do with how Mother Earth regulates herself.

Ostensibly, geothermal power takes advantage of the inherently stable temperature of the ground. Regardless of temperature fluctuations on the surface of the ground, soil below five feet remains at a fairly constant temperature range of 50 to 55 degrees. During the winter, this temperature can be used to create geothermal heating for a home or building.

The mechanics of using the ground for power are exceedingly simple. To produce heat, plastic piping loops are dug into the ground to create a circuit for heat transfer. Depending on the season, liquid is run through the system to exchange heat or cold with the ground and suck up the opposite. The reconstituted liquid is then run through a refrigerant process to produce cold air that it circulated in the home during the hot summer. In winter, the process runs backwards and the cold air in the home is forced into the ground where it circulates and is subsequently compressed. The compression warms the fluids to well over 100 degrees, which is transformed into heat for the home through air ducts.

An easier way to think of the above concept is to consider the season. In the winter, the system will transfer cold air to the ground in exchange for warm air used in your home. The opposite occurs in summer. Regardless of the season, a geothermal pump system can lower your energy costs by as much as 70 percent.
