Social Internet

How increasingly social the Internet is becoming is simply mind-blowing. You can see the thrill in my eyes every time I discover a new Website empowered by people who gathered online for a purpose, be it fun or business, it’s all great!Forget about facebook and LinkedIn and check out what Internet Giants like Google did to empower users (and of course stay on top), just yesterday I found out about Google’s Notebook. And last week, I’ve read about Google’s Web History. Neat!

I wonder where the Internet is heading after this social explosion, what more can the online world give us?

It gave us a second life in which we get virtually thirst. And while I was told Al-Jazeera’s English division is having problems reaching out to people outside the Arab World, people can now watch it on Youtube (Btselem has a channel on Youtube too, don’t miss it!). Having mentioned Al-Jazeera’s channel, it’s worthy of mentioning that Al-Jazeera joined Dwwen last year to launch their citizen media project “Al-Jazeera Talk” in Arabic.

Do you know this cool thing called netvibe? I love how it has everything I want, and I can check everything at once. It even has to-do lists and Web notes. And the open-ID thing…how great it will be when all the Websites you visit have the same username and password (you won’t have to register everytime you want to join a new Website) ? and you’ll still be able to have a different “persona” on each, how cool is that?

Everybody knows digg.com by now. People dig something, or give it a thumb-up if it was already digged. If they don’t dig it but it’s already digged by someone, they can bury it. This is especially useful if someone is looking for info about products, also if you need traffic, you’ll find it helpful to get digged by top diggers who happen to be normal people like you. A similar social Website is iliketotallyloveit.com (love the name). Another example is a Website where people gather to demand that a certain band or singer comes to town.

Some Websites mean business, people get together online to co-buy things, an example of that is letsbuyit.com .

New social Websites are launched based on really creative and smart ideas. Many originally non-social organizations are becoming social overnight! and It’s just amazing how fast it’s happening!

And that was me getting excited about social Internet.

Nice post.. I am trying the Google notebook now! :D True.. a lot of social new website are hitting high numbers of users, and new ones are also in the state of preparing to be launched.

Although most of them are useful, but also let’s not forget that some may contain inappropriate material. So one must be careful while using them..

This is sooooo true ! Web 2.0 rocks my world ! I just love how things changed from the old days where everything was static “Like a traditional museum” to the ever so lively bee nest we call the internet “like new age “hands on” museums”, you know what I mean ?

I had many attempts to rectify a website during the dark ages of web 1.0 and it annoyed me how inflexible and geeky it was ! While now with a click of a button you get a website, with no html “geeky knowledge” what’s so ever and if this wasn’t enough you are also able to have people communicating with you through it !

Amazing how the internet evolved into this live creature ! :)

What a great post. I share your excitement for the world we live in and how technology is making the new media playground even more fun to play on.

I’m also on the team behind Virtual Thirst so it gave me a big old smile to see it mentioned here as well.

I’d also like to add that you might want to check out ClipMarks.com as it’s one of the newest services that has really caught my attention and I’ve been using it a lot. Adds a whole new level when tagging content. At least to me it does.
