When a man follows governmental rules and regulations; people call him a good citizen. He’s patriotic.
When a man follows society’s rules and regulations; people call him civilized.
When a man follows God’s rules and regulations; people start asking questions.
The End.

if a man follows the rules they think something, what if a woman follows same rules?
i’m just joking, to be honest i was thinking of the same thing this week, because ppl really began to bother me when they know about my rules, and sometimes they reject me, especially, when they know about religion, its a challenge to keep doing what you believe in and be with ppl.
thnx for the post
my father always tells me how these days, religion is a little better in Jordan. back in the 50s and 60s, only old men went to pray in a mosque. if you were anyone else, people would start wondering what it was that you had done to feel it necessary to go.
that reminds me of this post

1- Patriotism is not attached to following governmental rules and regulations, you can be a patriot and a good citizen while opposing the government and fighting against its regulations, that’s how democracy goes, right?
2- Society customs and traditions might not be fully practiced and you can still be civilized, they also differ from society to another, and what is considered “civilized” here might be totally the opposite there.
3- Questions about “God’s rules and regulations” should be accepted as much as questions about (governmental rules and regulations) and about (society’s traditions and customs).
And I’m sure people question all 3 (government, society, religion) everywhere, in different ways. (when you think, you ask questions and look for answers)
When referring to religious topics some people say “well, I RESPECT that” , somehow they agreed that “God’s rules and regulations” are shielded and unquestionable, in fact they are as much questionable as everything else. So, why not to ask?
Roger,
1. yes you’re right. I guess it’s more accurate to say that following public regulations such as stopping at the traffic light, not littering the streets, not smoking in no smoking areas…etc makes one a good citizen. Politics is a whole different story, but even when a patriot is opposing his government he wouldn’t do anything to harm his country. That’s what I was trying to say.
2. everything is relative but in every society you have those general rules that you must follow or else people will think of you as uncivilized.
3. of course. Also, following God’s rules (or what one believes are God’s rules) should be accepted.
Don’t be so sure. Many people don’t question anything, and many people pretend to be open minded, but interestingly their so called open mindness stop at religion.
People can question and ask, in fact I think people should do that, I believe that God wants us to ask questions. When I respect other religions, it’s because I respect the followers and their choices not because I respect the practices.
BTW, the part about God’s rules has nothing to do with respect, isn’t it amazing that people won’t ask why you wear jeans or why you drink coffee, or why you use crossing areas when you cross the street, or even why do you believe in astrology?
on the other hand, people ask me why I’m veiled, or why I don’t drink. Nobody asked me why I don’t smoke! or why do I hate it when they throw garbage in the street, or why I hate crowded places! no one was shocked when I asked about their horoscope lol because they know it’s a personal choice and for some reason even though they think and act different, it makes sense to them that I’m following science, believe in the stars’ effect on personalities or care about the environment! people should also know that following God’s rules is a personal choice and it actually makes sense, even if they don’t believe in a God, there’s always a chance that God actually exists. Everything is possible.
