Where policemen and military officers do not pay for public transportation and take the cab you stopped by pretending that you do not exist.
I’d think that manners is something they are taught first before anything else, but apparently it’s not. I’d think that any man with good manners might give a woman the cab he stopped for himself, but apparently in Jordan we suffer from lack of good manners to the extent that average men and even men whose duty is to serve people would treat a woman like crap unless she’s the daughter of someone who’s higher in rank or power, they would try to get faster into a bus or faster to reach to a cab YOU stopped, or even just ignore the fact that you’re standing there trying to open the door. They stand right there behind you for less than five minutes while you’ve been waiting for half an hour- thanks to all the people who have no manners too- and they probably expect you to happily give up the cab you stopped for their excellency.
Nobody is asking Jordanian men to handle women with care, we do not ask for special treatment just treat both men and women like human beings! What is worse is that the higher in rank a man gets, the worse his manners. And don’t get me started on nepotism, and unethical work behavior that starts with lying and ends with illegal practices and theft.
Way to go Jordanians, way to go! I can not tell you how proud I am of the Jordanian man.
My day was ruined before it has started, so here’s my little wish for all those men out there who has no manners, and no ethics, I wish this day, God with his own ways would teach you something about being civilized and responsible. Amen.

Since when was God civilised and responsible?
- Jordan sounds like an amazing (and v. crazy ;)) place, hope to visit the Middle East one day…
i keep saying and telling this to people but they all ignore

here in jordan u have to be rude and unpolite so they respect you.. belevie me this work with me
This isn’t fair at all Shaden, if this happened to you once or twice it doesn’t mean this is Jordan nor this is the Jordanian manners.
You are blogging about this incident because you are angry but you wont be blogging about the good manners and thing when you aren’t.
jad,
meen yammmma good manner!!! akked its a joke !!
Some ppl here m3asbeh ma3hom
!!
CheeerZ!
Well, I don’t think it’s the lack of good manners, it’s the difficulty of transportation… especially in Ramadan, I was mental bloging about it the other day when I was standing in the street, alone, waiting for a taxi… Now think about it, if you were waiting for a taxi, dying to get home, have so many things to do and so little time, woiuld you give that cab up for an elderly lady? It takes too much nobelty…
You know the otehr day in the bus I was pissed because no one was chivarlous enough to give me his seat, but then I htought to myself: those people might be more tired than I am, and maybe they are sick from guvung up their seats for girls… but it’s just hard to give up a seat after a long day!
Meanwhile, I’m not saying that it’s right I still think these norms should be respected because it’s so unbecoming for a girl to stand in a busfull of seated guys! All I’m saying is to try to understand the reason
Ola, please re-read my post.
John, why don’t you leave God out of this? I hope you visit us in Jordan one day. Thanks for leaving a comment
Wedad, maybe you’re right but I can’t be that rude and impolite.
Jad, I promise you I will blog about it when something exceptionally good happens. You probably it’s not a big deal when a policeman thinks he’s above all to the extent that he taks a cab a girl stopped?! even if I was a guy that would’ve been unbelievably wrong! They acted as if I was supposed to open doors for them too. What the hell happened and made them think they can do such a stupid thing and get away with it? Is it because people are hypocrites? and they wouldn’t take money from them in public transportation and would allow them to violate many rules thinking that they are above these rules or because they fear them?
I know I don’t dedicate a post for those who change their seat so I can sit alone and not next to another guy, well that’s nice and that’s good manners but I’m sorry it does not affect me as much as such incidents do.
Dar, I swear to God they ruined my day. How can some people be so uncivilized?
“Way to go Jordanians, way to go! I can not tell you how proud I am of the Jordanian man”. I’m sorry dear, but you seem to have a problem with Jordanians in general, not policemen in specific, and you used this incident to jam all your bitterness on them. At least be fair and don’t conclude your post with such stereotype!! We still have civilized Jordanians you know!
lol ah I was kinda msa6leh… sorry
Thats v. bad, but you know I don’t think the only motivation that made those to do that is their impolitness, I think another reason is most people accept being mistreated by the more powerful, we don’t have the culture of defending our rights, I think if we defen our rights thats will dsappear.
thanks for sharing
cartoons, sorry to disappoint you (especially that this is your first comment on my blog) but it’s because I’m a Jordanian who happens to care about Jordan I felt this way. I didn’t think I need to make a disclaimer and say that of course not all of Jordanians are like that because it just doesn’t make sense that the entire country’s population are rude uncivilized people.
3alloosh, it’s ok
eyad, you’re right, today I was so shocked I couldn’t say something quickly and loud enough.
Shaden: Well you brought him into this
(“I wish this day, God with his own ways would teach you something about being civilized and responsible. Amen.“) and I couldn’t resist commenting. Nice blog!
Shaden,
This goes much beyond traffic and taxis, and beyond men or women. The essense of the matter is that there is a horrendous sense of selfishness. You felt it while you were waiting for a taxi and accused only men, but men are more physically aggressive that women, and therefore, the manifistation of this selfishness was more pronounced in this situation. when you drive your own car, you will notice similar attitude, but would apply to both genders equally and then you will conclude that no body respects anybody. It is what the Actor ghawar used to say ‘7aret kul meen eedo ilo’. But not to worry, in a few months, this will become the norm. For now, just take it easy and take my advice ‘Tanshi’ or you will become depressed

John, lol thanks!
Ammar, It’s good to see you around by the way, I hope all is well
I’m afraid you’re right, it just happened that they were men this time but I gotta admit that women can be just as outrageous. I’m already depressed.

lol some one is really angry here!!!
La 7ayata Liman Tonady…
The problem is not in men, nor women or army… no, the problem is deeply in ethics and how people are raised, I believe many people would give away their turn in Jordan, and I mean many as in majority
You are just not getting lucky
Is it still the same in Ramadan, there in Amman? Very heavy traffic ?
Still, it is FUN , I believe !
About civilization, Shaden… .. NO comments…
It’s not only in Jordan…it’s everywhere. And it’s not the general public either; it’s those with the privilege to do something others can’t who act the worst. And you’re right’ the higher the rank, the more rude they get. It’s one of those things that can only be remedied by letting them have a taste of their own medicine.
As much as i believe writing a comment for u is a waste of my time and others to read, but i have to say Girl, u have a black small molecule in ur hollow heart that hase a huge influence on ur writings…
