300? Can I get at least 300 2ersh back?

Many people said it’s going to be great, many assured me I’m gonna cry at some point. This is how touching and emotionally powerfull they said it’s going to be! Well guess what, it was hilariously stupid.

If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s 300 the movie people awaited impatiently and were extremely excited to know that it was finally out in the cinemas, that for an entire week you had to buy your ticket several hours before the actual show time.

Well, if you haven’t watched it yet, save yourself 5 JDs and don’t watch it.

I finally watched it today with Wedad, Hala, Khalidah and Omar and simply put, it was more like a comedy to all of us. At first, I was serious about watching this movie, as I’m normally strict about watching movies, I don’t like people to chat or make any sort of noises. So I started to shush them all, waiting for it to get serious and stop being boring. One hour passed, and I’m still not convinced. I was promised an amazing movie and this isn’t a good one, the only thing I liked is the graphics but even that didn’t last after seeing heads flying in the sky looking like a 3D animation from the late 80s. I thought that maybe I just need to get myself into the mood, so I kicked off my sandals, and experimented with different sitting positions. Didn’t work, and the girl sitting infront of me was getting annoyed so I stopped. Also, when exactly was I supposed to cry? When the only good looking guy was killed maybe?

In short: bad dialogue, poor acting, I was counting on the battle scene to entertain me but that was short too. The end was stupid, not worthy of killing 300 men (or 299).

I wanted my 5 JDs back. Good thing I didn’t go alone because we really had a good laugh with the elephants suddenly thrown down the valley and the unicorn dying in slow motion with the minimum effort of a Spartan. The whole thing was a bad mix of Law&Order, Passion of the Christ, Troy and Titanic. And I just need to repeat this, bad dialogue/monologue.

This movie as with everything else. Is a matter of taste, not consensus.
Even if millions loved it, it doesn’t mean that it will appeal to all

So it’s not you alone who had reservations towards this movie. But I think people have over exaggerated the movie to the point that you over expected and therefore you were disappointed.

For all fairness, the move is really spectacular, but the offensive story overshadowed all of that. Besides. Sometimes the company you’re with spoils the movies.
Personally, I love to go watch movies with select few that actually love and appreciate movies the way they’re supposed to be appreciated

I agree with Q, the people you go with can completely make you hate or love a movie.

I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve heard all the rave reviews (except this one, of course). I’ve had my reservations from the beginning, especially since this movie is being brought to us by the same team that gave us Sin City (bleh).

I guess you’re the kind of person who doesn’t like others to tell her what is good and what is not, you went to see the movie with this mentality and the fact that everyone is cheering for the movie kinda forced you to search for anything seeming not good and exaggerate it, this is why you found the movie bad I think.

But on the other hand, you’re a girl, and how could such a movie look appealing to a girl? (notice the sexiest language!) If you didn’t appreciate the extra-super-ultra great violence scenes in the movie and actually just sat their laughing then you’re a girl! :D
The movie was one of the best movies I ever watched, when you see a 100 cigarette lighted simultaneously inside the theater one second after the movie’s final scene, you gotta appreciate the cause!

Omar, it’s interesting how you concluded that I suffer from a complex but sorry to disappoint your psychiatric intuition that’s not the case. As a matter of fact, I was “mentally” prepared for a great movie, something I could hardly wait for. I was surprised I didn’t like it, not pretending to be surprised. But thanks for analyzing me anyway.

Shade, I left you a long comment, then it was too long so I retreated to my blog. Would you accept the advice of an older brother and read this: The art of Movie-watching »?

  12. 12 Qwaider قويدر Posted April 1st, 2007 - 8:45 PM

Sorry for the typo in your name Shaden

  13. 13 OmAr Posted April 2nd, 2007 - 2:22 PM

lol Shaden! a complex?! no , I was saying you’re stubborn that’s all :) that was my silly way of saying it! I didn’t ‘analyze’ you, this happens to me a lot when I go watch movies, I’m sorry if you took any offense.

  14. 14 Sultan Posted April 3rd, 2007 - 9:12 AM

    I need my 5JD’s back too…

Omar, Let me tell you something; I am a girl and I watched Troy more than once and loved it so much, it was amazing!

But this one!!! all the people in the theater didnt like it even the guys!

Actually, Its the first time for me to watch a movie in the cinema and to leave saying that am still waiting the movie, and asking myself how could any one like this movie?!!!!!

  18. 18 Qwaider قويدر Posted April 4th, 2007 - 11:38 AM

According to Rotten Tomatoes, 86% of the people who watched this movie, actually loved it.

Anyway, people have different tastes, and what appeals to someone might not suit others

Sorry if anyone got offended, that was not my intention

  19. 19 Musa Hindi موسى هندي Posted April 23rd, 2007 - 8:55 PM

What is wrong with this page !!! :S All I could read was :
    (300? ********************
Many people said it’s going to be great, many assured me I’m gonna cry at some point. This is how touching and emotionally powerfull they said it’s going to be!
    and the rest was ****************************)

Oh now I remember I have the CRAP FILTER turned on in my web browser !!!!! It prevents any crap to be viewed !

OK. The instant I realized the seriousness of your flaring attack endeavour, a reflex was triggered that initiated in my eyes and bypassed everything else to reach my typing fingers (with some brief visits to my brain to extract the vivid remarks that you shall embark upon !)

OK. I will count to ten, take a deep breath and try to indulge you as much as my reason allows. I first saw glimpse of this movie in October 2006 and immediately I was gob-smacked to say the least at the mystifying imagery that i was witnessing. Hence, to say that I was dying to see it would be an understatement! Finally the “official” Jordanian release date emerged and I made haste to reserve my seat for the premier. After watching it, I remained unresponsive for 3 hours!! Yes that was how amazed I was!!!

Now, you come and say you want your money back!!! Poor acting !!!
Of course their acting was poor because they weren’t acting they were personifying the roles !!! They were so convincing to the extent that they made war for once look cool !! Bad dialog ! One of two reasons could make you say that : 1.You were acutely deaf and 2.You didn’t comprehend a word! For your sake I hope it was the former!! Bad dialog !!! Seriously what is bad about this:

“Then what must a king do to save his world when the very laws he has sworn to protect force him to do nothing?!”

“Spartan, come back with your shield or on it!”

“Why are you smiling?” and in response : “Arcadian, I have fought countless times yet I have never met an adversary who could offer me what we Spartans call a beautiful death!”

Oh and these were only taken from the first 20 mins of the movie !!!

Regarding the art design and the graphics they are nothing short of a symphony in motion. And the music! It would have sufficed that I watch a black screen with it rolling in the background and preferably in 5.1 surround sound!!

As for the 80’s look you fallaciously mentioned, the whole franchise 300 is actually a comic book written and drawn by the great Frank Miller. His art is very unique, previously displayed in motion pictures such as Sin City. So to say that the effects and look is an 80’s one I would say NOPE( or LLLLLLLA2; that was for the benefit for someone who is reading this ;))

As for the battle scenes they were epic!! Very gory and very well designed. Exaggerated? Yes ! But who said the events were completely real?! The best description would be : Extrapolated Reality. The events have a historical basis yet the ones depicted in the movie are strictly comic material.

In short: don’t go on insulting the movie that I have so passionately watched 30 times with each experience being more original than the previous one. And please be more objective next time. As for everyone else go see the movie with an open mind and make your own judgment because “Blinding Ignorance is misleading”…..Leonardo da Vinci

Well , I cant say any more word

I agree Musa Hindi all words

    The Movie was so great

I say , If you haven’t seen it yet , don’t hesitate , go now watch it at Cinema , it is so great , and ( 5 jds ) is nothing for such a movie
    Regards

Musa and Sami, thank you for sharing your opinion with me. To each his own, and the fact that people felt strongly about the movie, wither in a positive or a negative way makes it a successful one.

And welcome to my blog guys, it’s nice to see d1gies on board :-)
