If Palestinians did that, this would make headlines in the U.S media.
Tove Johansson from Stockholm walked through the Tel Rumeida checkpoint with a small group of human rights workers (HRWs) to accompany Palestinian schoolchildren to their homes. They were confronted by about 100 Jewish extremists in small groups. They started chanting in Hebrew “We killed Jesus, we’ll kill you too!” — a refrain the settlers had been repeating to internationals in Tel Rumeida all day.
After about thirty seconds of waiting, a small group of very aggressive male Jewish extremists surrounded the international volunteers and began spitting at them, so much so that the internationals described it as “like rain.” Then men from the back of the crowd began jumping up and spitting, while others from the back and side of the crowd kicked the volunteers.
The soldiers, who were standing at the checkpoint just a few feet behind the HRWs, looked on as they were being attacked.
One settler then hit Tove on the left side of her face with an empty bottle, breaking it on her face and leaving her with a broken cheekbone. She immediately fell to the ground and the group of Jewish extremists who were watching began to clap, cheer, and chant. The soldiers, who had only watched until this point, then came forward and motioned at the settlers, in a manner which the internationals described as “ok… that’s enough guys.” [Source]

That is awful! The world should know that their extremist are no better than ours! Both are bad. It is sad that we have to pay for their insanity!
This story, and the story about the families of the 12 Arab Israelies who were killed by Israeli policemen in October 2000 refusing to accept a compensation deal from the government of Israel in return for denying any guilt on the part of the Israeli police in the October 2000 events come at the same time as I’m reading the book “Blood and Religion” which talks about the status of Palestinians inside Israel.
The documented facts in that book are simply unbelievable and I assume that even the average Arab or Palestinian who thinks they know a lot about what goes on in Israel will be surprised by what they read in that book. It’s basically every important story that the media simply chooses to ignore and makes you think “how the hell can they keep quiet about this?”
By the way, the term “militancy” applies to the actions of these extremist individuals.
From Dictionary.com, militant (noun):
. vigorously active and aggressive, esp. in support of a cause: militant reformers.
. Fighting or warring.
. Having a combative character; aggressive, especially in the service of a cause: a militant political activist.
I think these stories should be reported as being attacks by Jewish militants and the reporting of Israel’s police protection should be reporting about Israel’s police protecting Jewish militant attacks on Arab civilians.
Unfortunately the truth is that attacks against ISM-ers is not news.
For some it is like they are asking for it (even though they are unarmed and doing little more than walking kids to school). News agencies prefer to whip up stories about missles, terrorists and abductions (and oops - we forgot to mention they were released unarmed hours later. OK they shouldn’t have been abducted in the first place, but c’mon).
You Americans are not alone.
Here in Australia there was no reporting of this incident.
BBC - no report, and they consider themselves the best.
My posts to several BBC “have your say” forums re. this have all been “moderated” away.
I’m thinking that a bigger problem than the incident itself, is how “news” is manipulated. All I can see now is some “Winston Smith” (1984) at the BBC dropping my posts into the furnace in an attempt to re-write history.
