Every 15 seconds a woman is a target of violence around the world. One in every five wives is regularly physically abused by her husband.
According to new study 61 percent of Jordanian women are targets of domestic violence. The study shows that 33.3 percent of the domestic violence is focused on screaming, insults and contempt.
Economic violence includes depriving a woman from her right to inheritance, the taking of all her salary by the family of the husband and the inequality of earnings between men and women.
We can change this! starting with ourselves first, and then by talking to mothers, wives, daughters and sisters one woman at a time!
It’s time to speak. Make your voice heard in every possible way. It’s your duty and your right to stand up for yourself and your sisters.

I wish more men AND women took active part in educating other people and families about domestic violence. First of all, I feel DV flourishes not only because of wife beaters (physically, financially and emotionally) but also because most other women in the family of ‘the wife beater’ would rather take a back seat and watch it - they feel they are powerless to stop it or then they approve of this action by the husband. These other women could be the sister in law, mother in law, wives of brothers. Also, when these families are exposed in front of law, most members male and female won’t stand up to convict the wife beater, out of fear that they will let down the one they love. A wife beater doesn’t understand the meaning of love, in the first place. What happens? The one who demands justice looks like a fool, the one who needed lawful punishment goes home and grabs a whip.
This, however, won’t happen if every city and town had shelters for battered women. Where there are believers of her misery, where she will be recuperated and given a life and justice.
Real men don’t need to bully women into submission. Real men inspire women to love and respect them.
And yes, complicit women are half the battle.
