“Roxanne, you don’t have to put on the red light”. I only watched Moulin Rouge a couple of weeks ago on mbc2 and I’m glad I did. First of all, I’m a fan of musical movies so I was greatly entertained by the musical bits. But the reason this movie is now a favorite, is it’s story. I can tell you that something shivered inside me while listening to “Roxanne” and watching the actors dance to that song (I love dancing, and everything that has to do with body language). There’s something very powerful in the tune, let alone what the song is about. Roxanne was a Hindu courtesan who had to choose between a man who loved her and the Mahraja. You can read the lyrics here, but the new version is not as good as the one in Moulin Rouge in my opinion.
Aside from the powerful musical performances, anything that shows prostitution in a humanitarian, romantic way blows out my mind. It is intense, very primitive and mind stimulating. It reminded me with Eleven Minutes (a book by Paulo Coelho), and another movie I watched called “Dangerous Beauty”.
Off topic, I really miss the rain.
A Story About Love

the police reunited last night on the grammys and i hear their launching a summer tour
and…sting did come to amman once…so who knows, maybe ‘roxanne’ is coming to a concert near you
If you liked that one, maybe you will like the Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Dicaprio. It is musical and futuristic. It is very interesting and I liked it despite Leo! It uses Shakespearean speech and is just an interesting mix. There are details like the names on the revolvers that match the names of their swords in the original.
