Manipulation of Marketing Communication

04Apr07

Turns out I’m not the only one annoyed by Fair and Lovely’s commercials. Check out their latest commercial (in Arabic) or the Indian version of it. So much for real beauty no?

I didn’t know that Unilever, the producing company is the same producer of Dove products!

Why the Campaign for Real Beauty?

For too long, beauty has been defined by narrow, stifling stereotypes. Women have told us it’s time to change all that. Dove agrees. We believe real beauty comes in many shapes, sizes and ages. That is why Dove is launching the Campaign for Real Beauty.

Dove’s global Campaign for Real Beauty aims to change the status quo and offer in its place a broader, healthier, more democratic view of beauty. A view of beauty that all women can own and enjoy everyday. [Read more]

Can you see the manipulation and hypocrisy in that?

I would love to see what this “Democracy of Beauty” really means!

I too detest things like Fair’n'lovely it’s just too manipulative, and promotes negative emotions an ideas in the mind of the “darker” ladies. This is so wrong!

What? You don’t see how Fair & Lovely transformed those homely, plain girls into trendy babes in mere seconds? Amazing!

I guess we need to see the Swedish and Russian version of the ads maybe the magic cream would transfer their skin into black, if so then it’s FAIR and lovely ads :D

First I was appalled by the video and how if you are not “fair” then you are not ”lovely” , what a great way to completely make little girls and women suffer from self esteem issues when watching it.

Then when you said the same company produced Dove I was shocked???!!

What hypocrisy! I guess they have a double standard, one for the west and one for the east.
