Investigation my…

04May07

Two teachers tied up a 2nd or 3rd grade female student and took turns in beating her, in one of Amman’s school. The teachers tied her up to the safety net of a window, and had another student watch her being tortured, perhaps to learn a lesson. Read the full story here (in Arabic)

But not to worry, the incident was taped by a bunch of passing guys using a mobile phone camera and Amman’s office of education and they will investigate the matter!

Why wasn’t police involved in this? investigate what? It’s not 911, it’s a little girl who was horrified, beaten and subjected to inhumane acts, you bring the two teachers right away and deal with them. It’s not something you need to investigate, you don’t investigate when you have an evidence; all they might want to do is to make sure the video clip is real. And mind you that school isn’t Boston Public, it’s most probably a public school where the majority of teachers are in need of intense psychological therapy, so why does it seem to me that the “investigation” is nothing but a cover of how corrupt we’ve become, how apathetic and simply used to all sorts of crap happening around us. But hey I hope I’m wrong, and I hope to hear some good news about the investigation, for the sake of all the kids who’s families can not afford putting them in private schools.

It is worthy of mentioning, that nearly one month ago a school principal was punished by one-week deduction of his salary for violations in students’ punishment. This is according to the same story in Al-Rai newspaper.

Yea I’m sure one-week deductions are very effective and fair compared to life time scars and the emotional and physical abuse that is inflected on future men and women.

Oh man ! That’s plain sick ! These sort of things needs to be stopped for us to improve as a nation ! Such an animal working with kids ! Now they will be scared for life !

Educational institutes should have proper laws and criteria when it comes to hiring staff!

Shaden, I wouldn’t go by saying things like “the majority of teachers are in need of intense psychological therapy”, Don’t you think that’s a false and unjust generalization?

You’re right, this is not the US, and the way these matters are handled is different. The minister has the authority to transfer this to a criminal investigation. But he also needs to investigate to know many things.
Who are these women torturing the little child?
    Who else was an accomplice?
Why did this happen in the first place? Did people with authority in that school know? Were these teachers? Is the video real?

There are many rules and guidelines and Investigating is the right thing to do, on fear of … falsely generalizing, for all we know, these might have been anyone!

Munther, Qwaider, Sam, thank you very much for commenting.

Qwaider: You wouldn’t but I would. Having psychological problems does not mean they’re crazy, but my experience and the experience of people I know says they have serious issues that need to be dealt with for their own sake first and second for the students they teach.

I still respectfully disagree with you on this one .. Many teachers are fantastic selfless and sacrifice everything for their students. Many have raised generations and the fact that many students are ill mannered doesn’t mean that teachers are bad

Consider how teachers are paid miserably, and live in horrible conditions.

On that note, I agree on psychological evaluation for every teacher. Recently, they’ve decided to do that for teachers in Saudi. A very promising step in my humble opinion. Jordan should do the same. Every teacher must go through evaluation (which they already do),psychological evaluation, and background check (you don’t want an ex-con dealing with your children).

I think the whole society suffer from psychological issues, without singling out any group over any other.

I hope you would be able to see my take on this
