I’m sick of detergents commercials, especially laundry detergents. Why? because they always involve a mother doing her family’s laundry, sometimes kids’ laundry and sometimes her successful husband’s white “dishdasha”. When is this gonna change? the stereotyping of women as housewives in commercials, who’s biggest dilemma is pleasing their husbands and making his clothes whiter than the neighbor’s husband’s. And it’s not just about laundry detergents commercials, but it’s a very clear example of stereotyping and narrow mindness, not to mention lack of creativity.
I’m not saying don’t show women as desperate housewives, because God knows some are, but don’t show them as just that. Women do wash their own clothes too you know! And surprise surprise, we might even be single!!
And when it’s not about wives and husbands, and wives and kids, it’s about a wife and her mother in law getting catty. And when it’s not a detergent, it’s rice, or sugar. Seriously, it’s becoming very annoying.

they have to make it about the husband’s white dishdasha, because he is the one that will end buying the OMO…
you girls when you will stop complaining about men! we want equality with women, we should start complaining and sounding our suffering from your complains
Ever heard why “Soap operas” became called like that? Because the target audience has always been women
The reason they target women is that men, don’t give a damn which detergent to use. Anything will do. While women pay too much attention to pick the best might be a good thing, or a bad thing, but that’s a decision influenced by women (just like everything else in this world)
How would women react to men telling them what to use for laundry? I know … they will be like “Huh… What do YOU know?”
it is not creative that for sure …
but believe nothing is uglier than a Dishdashe that is not shining white … people will mistake them with sha7adeen …
I have been saying that since forever, but no one would listen to me! I useed to say and still saying that Arabic Ads are nothing but pure “Ta5alof” and yes they are stereotyping not only women, but little girls also, at some point Arabic Ads are teaching those young girls how to be great house wives in the future while they must be taught how to be strong, leading women in society.
Damn, I have had it too!!!
yea…I hate those commercials as well, I forgot the last time I saw a creative laundry detergents commercial !!
Salamat
Was this by any chance inspired by this?

Ola, no. Hajjaj is brilliant, I love how he’s connected to people, and it’s reflected in his cartoons, they are so real!
Qwaider, you got it wrong, it’s not about showing women in commercials, it’s about HOW they show them!
Yeah, but notice how happy these women are to be doing laundry? And they’re always good looking and dressed up so nicely!
Perhaps if the commercials were made in Jordan, we could have a picture of some woman watching her husband’s orange street worker jumpsuit in color-safe detergent to get the stains out.
Dave, lol that’s more real and creative actually
In ads everything has to be perfect. They show the item as the perfect item, so everything around should be as perfect.
Thats why they show the woman in its perfect place, as a housewife. In quran it is well & clearly declared how the perfect place for a lady is to be a housewive at home. & what a noble & perfect job assigned to the best.
Thats why they chose that job in the ads for the woman
Shaden, this is the one I like SO much…could you expand it to 1000 words? I’ll ask my editor to take a peek!
Kinzi, I think so, just tell me when do you need it done.
Sanad, long ago women used to work in farms, they were religious too but it has nothing to do with being out or in. To be a good wife and mother is certainly noble, but so is giving men a hand in building society. You seem to forget that even though the Prophet’s (PBUH) wives (may Allah be pleased with them) were housewives He used to sew his clothes. Nothing in Islam says being a housewife is a job, in fact women who had enough money hired servants to do housework.
